Following a big win over Atlantic on September 18, the ADM football team’s season took a turn for the worse. A disappointing 2015 campaign came to a close on Friday in Harlan, as the Harlan Cyclones pounded the Tigers, 49-7.

ADM (3-6, 1-5) finished the year with five straight losses and was outscored 152-48 over its final four games. It’s ADM’s first losing season since 2013, when the Tigers went 4-6 but still made the playoffs, and the first time ADM has missed the postseason in seven years.

Harlan scored early and often on ADM, putting the game virtually out of reach by the end of the first quarter en route to its fifth straight win. Cyclones junior tailback Nick Tarney ran for 103 yards on just 13 carries and four touchdowns, while fullback Nick Foss added 73 yards rushing and two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass from senior Kyle Juhl.

The Cyclones (8-1, 5-1) scored three touchdowns in a span of just over three minutes in the first quarter, taking advantage of ADM turnovers and short fields and turning them into quick points. Two of those touchdowns came on just one play, on a rushing score each by Tarney and Foss.

By halftime, Harlan had scored all 49 of its points and brought in its backups to start the second half.

With the win and Glenwood’s 12-7 victory over Dallas-Center Grimes, those two teams and Harlan moved into a three-way tie for first place in Class 3A District 8. The district champion with thus be determined by point differential from the entire season, with the max points allowed to be added per game limited to 13.
