The girls and boys cross-country teams from ADM, Greene County, and Perry, all took part in a Class 3A Coed State Qualifying Meet at Glenwood Lake Park late Thursday afternoon, and Perry’s Grace Stewart, a sophomore, was the lone qualifier for the State Meet north of Ft. Dodge on Saturday, Oct. 31. Stewart qualified by finishing the girls’ five kilometers (3.1 miles) in fourteenth place. This is the first year the top 15 individual place finishers advance to State. Until this season, only the top 10 qualified. Stewart’s time was 20 minutes, 50.59 seconds. Lexi Smith of Dallas Center-Grimes was the champion in 19:08.93.

Greene County’s top finisher was Olivia Hansen. She was nineteenth in 21:07.72. ADM was led by Sadie Juergens, 23rd, in 21:32.62.

DC-G won the girls’ team title with 57 points to 72 for second place Harlan. Denison-Schleswig was third at 96, and all three teams advance to State. Glenwood was fourth at 107, followed by Winterset 116, Atlantic 122, ADM 193, Creston 195, Greene County 257, Saydel (Des Moines) 280, Perry 297, and Clarke (Osceola) 319.

On the boys’ side, DC-G had 41, Winterset 70, and Harlan 106. Those three teams go to State. In fourth at 133 was Atlantic, followed by Kuemper Catholic 149, Glenwood 165, D-S 203, Saydel 205, Creston 209, Perry 264, ADM 269, and 368 by Greene County.

The highest finishing boy for the 5K race from the Raccoon Valley Radio area was Adum Dawitt of Perry, 27th, in 18:02.03. ADM’s top finisher was Iain Newman, 35th, in 18:16.59. Greene County was led by Nick Killion, 62nd, in 20:07.43.
