The city council elections are less than two weeks away and there are two candidates running for the District 2 seat on the Jefferson City Council.
Matt Wetrich is challenging incumbent Lisa Jaskey. Wetrich has lived in Jefferson for nine years and is married with six kids. He is a naturalist with the Carroll County Conservation Department. With his career, Wetrich says he has to work with other groups to complete projects, which he believes he can do as a councilperson.
“I think that’s something I would bring to the table for sure is hearing folks out (with) different angles, different aspects and trying to help blend all these different entities together that we have going for the downtown area and moving Greene County forward.”
Along with being open-minded to all opinions, Wetrich points out the main reason why he is running for city council.
“I want to help create a space for my family that has long-term benefits (and) great community aspects for family things, not just for next quarter or next year, but thinking five to ten years down the line (and) making decisions that will benefit long-term things (and) thinking big picture.”
Wetrich also serves on the Jefferson Kiwanis Club and is vice-president of the Iowa Association of Naturalists.
Polls will be open on Tuesday, November 3rd.
