Greene County RamsThe Greene County School Board met last night in regular session.

The Board approved a request for six FFA student to attend the national convention next week in Louisville, Kentucky.  The Board also approved starting a science club at the high school, sharing girls and boys soccer with Boone this spring, three early graduation requests, three fundraising requests, purchasing 135 Google Chromebooks for $45,378.90 and additional allowable growth money from the SBRC request as presented.

The Board heard an update about the student construction house.  The project to build the home for staff member Kyle Kinney is about finished with the exterior of the first floor and looking to start the second story later this month.

The Board also discussed starting its own soccer program.  Jeff Schroeder and Carl Behne believe that there is enough interest to start the school’s own soccer program.  The Board took no action, pending more research about possible locations, funding for equipment and availability of coaches.

The Board discussed plans for this year’s high school prom.  Junior Class Advisor Teresa Green said the students inquired about having prom at the Greene Room at Wild Rose Jefferson.  The Board took no action and asked if the Wild Rose officials would allow them to have it at their facility, then they consider it for this year.

Superintendent Tim Christensen announced that the district received $601,306 from an estate that’s earmarked for scholarships.

The next board meeting will be on Monday, November 23rd at 6:30pm, due to the Iowa School Board Association’s annual convention.
