A warm weather forecast means thousands of people will be heading to Deal’s Orchard’s annual fall festival.
Gerald Deal says last year they had about 15,000 people enjoy the two-day event. There are a lot of free activities for the younger and older generations to do. There is spin and sand art, a corn box, rope making, horse-drawn hay rides, live entertainment by an Iowa State Fair champion fiddle player, along with peddle tractors, hamster wheels and two 80-foot slides, plus a lot more.
Two local groups will also hold fundraisers this weekend at the orchard. Deal says the Greene County FFA chapter is hosting a petting zoo with all proceeds to benefit their activities throughout the year. The local boy scout troop is also having a fundraiser with a spook cave.
“They come in and they do the spook cave for us. It’s a cave that we used to store about 4,000 bushels of apples is now what they use for their spook cave every year for the fall festival. And so all the money they receive, they use in their different activities for the boy scouts.”
The fall festival is this Saturday and Sunday. Deal’s Orchard is located at 1102 244th Street in Jefferson.
