Greene County High School’s Homecoming is Finally Here
Greene County High School’s Homecoming is this week.
Student Council Advisor Deb Marquardt says this year’s theme is “Rounding Up the Cowbell” because the Rams play the Perry Bluejays, which is the traditional Battle of the Cowbell football game.
Students and staff will also have the opportunity to dress up with individual theme days. Monday is Senior Citizen Day, Tuesday is Dress to Impress Day for school pictures, Wednesday is 1980’s Fitness Day, Thursday is Cowboy/Rancher/Farmer Day and Friday is White Out and Spirit Day.
There are also several activities going on throughout the week. Businesses had their windows painted in support of Homecoming. The Rams volleyball team is encouraging everyone to wear Hawaiian clothes to their home match on Tuesday and wear the color purple for Thursday’s “Blocking Out Cancer” match. Wednesday, the public is invited to a community bonfire and a Smash-A-Car event at the Greene County Fairgrounds at 8pm. Marquardt explains why they are incorporating the Smash-A-Car that evening.
“The kids just thought that we don’t really raise any money during Homecoming week, but we spend quite a bit doing all these activities. That was just kind of an old thing that used to happen. The kids have an old car ready and just pay a dollar and you get to smash it.”
Thursday following the volleyball match will be the annual jersey auction at the middle school gym. Friday’s activities include a parade at 2pm with the king and queen coronation ceremony to take place on the south side of the downtown square around 2:30pm. Before the varsity football game that night, the booster club will be sponsoring games for people to enjoy.
Marquardt encourages everyone to show their Ram pride this week leading up to the home football game on Friday night against Perry.
