Teepeeing is the act of throwing rolls of toilet paper over trees, cars, houses and lawns. It is a tradition among Stuart youth the night before Homecoming and the police department says they have mixed emotions about it.
Officials say extra officers will be on patrol tonight to monitor teepeeing and other rowdy behavior. They say half the community supports the tradition and the other half view it as a nuisance.
Officers remind students and their parents that if the activity is going to occur, then it needs to be done as responsibly as possible. Tips include only teepeeing properties you have acquired permission from, respecting those who ask you to stop the activity and staying out of roadways and watching for traffic.
The Stuart Police Department says kids will certainly get in trouble if they damage property, throw eggs instead of toilet paper or don’t comply with police if they ask you to stop and talk to them.
The department doesn’t condone or encourage teepeeing and insists if it has to be done to please do it responsibly.
