Greene County is among the teams at today’s Leon Fox Cross-Country Invitational hosted by Perry at the Perry Country Club just north of town. Coach Kelly Simpson’s Rams are low on numbers this year, but the boys’ team is expected to get a boost from senior Ethan Woodruff, who is slated to run at Perry. If he does, it will be his first meet of the season. The other five Rams are all sophomores.

The Greene County girls have been led by junior Olivia Hansen and sophomore Emily Finch. That duo has consistently been in the top 10 in most races, or just outside of it. This is the first season Iowa high school girls are running the five kilometers (3.1 miles) distance, the same as the boys. Hansen was concerned about the extra six-tenths of a mile increase from the former four K distance when she first heard about the change, but earlier this week she told Raccoon Valley Radio the distance wasn’t a big factor and she hardly notices it now.
