Austin Kloewer put on a show and ADM made untimely mistake after untimely mistake as the Dallas-Center Grimes Mustangs Clobbered the Tigers, 35-7, Friday night in Grimes.

The district opener for both teams stayed close through the first quarter and a half before the Mustangs (2-1, 1-0) took advantage of Tiger turnovers and turned them into quick scores.

DCG took a 13-0 lead on the first of two rushing touchdowns for Kloewer from 10 yards out with 5:11 to go in the second quarter. On the first play of the ensuing ADM drive, senior quarterback Frank Weiland’s fumble was recovered by the Mustangs at the ADM 25,  and Kloewer found Bryant Clapper on a 14-yard scoring strike just 51 seconds later. Nathan Brown’s two-point conversion run put DCG up 21-0.

Weiland was picked off by Logan Buck on the next series, again setting up DCG deep inside ADM territory. Kloewer capped off his stellar night with a 13-yard scamper that extended the Mustangs’ lead to 28-0 with 3:55 to go in the first half.

Kloewer finished 11-for-16 for 110 yards and two touchdowns through the air, along with close to 200 yards on the ground. Weiland struggled with two interceptions and the fumble lost, while finishing 21-32 for nearly 200 yards. ADM’s ground game also struggled to get going, amassing just 35 yards on 20 carries. To compound matters, the Tigers committed 10 penalties, including several ill-timed personal fouls that stalled the offense during what looked like promising drives.

ADM’s only score came late in the fourth quarter when backup quarterback Sam McCartney tossed a 20-yard touchdown to sophomore Gavin O’Steen.

ADM (2-1, 0-1) returns to Adel next Friday for homecoming against the Atlantic Trojans.
