More than 500 Perry High School Students are out and about today, taking part in an annual homecoming tradition that aims to give back to their community.
Volunteer day is something that students, staff and community members look forward to each fall.
Student Council Advisor Brenda Mintun says she loves seeing the students get excited about helping out.
“It makes me really proud to see them out helping other individuals. I know sometimes as teenagers in the high school we get wrapped up in homecoming king and queen and what I have to do, or how our sports are doing but really, it’s just a service to others. I’m so glad I can be a part of it and help encourage these kids to see beyond themselves for the day.”
Students will be working on a variety of tasks including trail clean-up, Habitat for Humanity projects, visiting with residents at area care facilities, helping animals at the local shelter and cleaning up the highway.
Mintun says the program continues to grow each year and make the community a better place.
She’ll share more with us on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
