Everyone is invited to the Greene County Historical Society’s October program.
It will highlight the Dragoons, who were a military outfit in the 1830’s that mapped and explored land along the Des Moines River. They also served as a buffer between feuding Native American tribes and guided early white settlers of where they could legally establish homesteads. Their work also led them through parts of Greene County.
The free program will be at 1pm on Friday at the United Methodist Church in Rippey and the presenter will be Rippey resident Mary Weaver. No pre-registration is necessary for the free event. A lunch will be provided prior to the event at noon. RSVP’s are required for the $8 meal. Contact Weaver at 515-360-8046 to register for the meal.
