A look at passing statistics for Class 3A Iowa high school football programs indicates the football could be airborne a lot on Friday night when the Greene County Rams visit Humboldt for the Wildcats’ homecoming game. Three of the top four 3A teams in terms of passing yards through five weeks of the season are in District 2, including Greene County and Humboldt. Boone has 1,036 passing yards to lead the category with Chariton next at 1,029. The Rams are third in passing yards with 972 and Humboldt is fourth at 930. Of the top four passing teams in 3A, only Chariton currently has a winning record at 4-1. The Rams are 2-3 and both the Wildcats and Toreadors are 1-4.

Ram senior quarterback Daric Whipple has completed 56 of 113 passes for all 972 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. Whipple has also run for 690 yards and nine TDs while averaging 7.1 yards per carry.

Humboldt QB Drew Thomas, son of head coach Greg Thomas has completed 40% of his passes for 930 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions…He’s also the Wildcats’ leading rusher with 307 yards, a 5.6 per carry average, and four TDs.
