Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater says 31 year old Jason McGowan was living in the motel room that he allegedly set on fire. He was arrested on a charge of First Degree Arson and remains in the Adair County Jail where he is held without bond.

In November 2013 McGowan was arrested on several charges related to purposely setting his room at the Stuart Super 8 on fire. Iowa Courts Online records show McGowan pled guilty via a negotiated plea deal and served 338 days in jail.

Nobody was injured in Monday’s fire which was responded to by the Stuart Fire Department, Menlo Fire Department, Stuart Rescue and the Stuart Police Department.
