It’s almost been three weeks since Greene County residents voted down the $20 million bond referendum proposed by the Greene County Community School District.
Superintendent Tim Christensen discussed the issue with the school board to find out why over 60 percent voted no. Over the next few weeks, Christensen wants to hold public forums in Jefferson, Grand Junction, Scranton and Rippey to find out why people voted no and if anyone has a better solution or idea of how the proposed plan could be changed in order for it to pass. Public input is also welcomed on a Google form.
He notes that the original plans the architect proposed to the facility study committee were a lot higher than $20 million.
“In the first plan the architects put together was closer to $28-$30 million range. The (facility study) committee did do a lot of work in terms of scaling things back and trying to put out the most economical plan from the start.”
Christensen adds that if anyone has a comment or a solution for the bond to contact him through email at christensent@greenecountycsd.net.
The next time the bond can go back to the voters is February of 2016.
