The Guthrie County Republican Party will host their Annual Pie Auction and Potluck this weekend. It will feature many guests including presidential candidate Rick Santorum, United States Senator Joni Ernst, United States Congressman David Young, State Representative Clel Baudler, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate and Iowa Auditor Mary Mosiman. Additional guests include Betty and Richard Odgaard. They are the owners of Gortz Haus, in Grimes, a gallery and bistro that became the center of controversy after the Odgaards declined to host a gay wedding in 2013, citing their own religious objections.
Guthrie County Republican Party Treasurer Rita King says the event is a successful fundraiser for them each year, with some pies auctioned off for impressive prices. “The highest pie we sold was $150. It’s a good event and we’re hoping we have another good turnout.”
It begins Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Guthrie Center Activity Center with a free will offering supper.
