A Perry nursing facility faces thousands of dollars in fines after being cited by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals.
According to the citation report, obtained by Raccoon Valley Radio from the Health Facilities Division, the Perry Health Care Center received three citations and a total of $13,500 in fines.
The citations were issued based on a survey that was completed between July 15th and August 18th.
The first citation is in regards to required nursing services. The report states that based on observation, record review, staff and physician interviews and a review of the facility’s policy/procedures, the Perry Health Care Center failed to assess and intervene when residents experienced condition changes and following a fall with injury for three of 12 reviewed residents. This Class I citation carries a fine of $8,000.
The other Class I citation is in regards to safety and required nursing services for residents. The report states the Perry Health Care Center failed to provide adequate supervision to protect against hazards when transferring a resident from a shower. This results in another $5,000 in fines.
The third citation is a Class II in regards to medication and treatment, and drug administration. According to the report, the facility failed to administer the correct medication, as ordered by the physician. This resulted in a significant medication error which could have caused an acute medical condition. The fine attached to it is $500.
According to the report the facility cared for a total of 26 residents during the time of the survey.
