The Perry Chamber Board of Directors will have a special visitor at their meeting this week as they learn more about the opportunities involved with being a Main Street community.
Executive Director Bob Wilson says he was recently approached by someone who was surprised to hear Perry was not already a Main Street community and felt it would be a good fit for the town.
“It’s a group that focuses on your downtown, brings in more programming, more promotions. It can also be a branch of the Chamber as well. So we’re going to bring in Michael Wagler, who is actually the director of Main Street (Iowa) to come and talk to the Chamber board. Basically just give us an overview. What are the advantages of being a Main Street? What are the requirements and expectations? How do you set it up? Where does the funding come from? How do we sustain this program? Is it really a fit for Perry in conjunction with the Chamber or maybe it’s a stand alone thing. This is a really neat opportunity.”
The Perry Chamber Board meets the first and third Thursday of each month at noon.
