Reaction was favorable to moving the Greene County Cross-Country Invitational back to Spring Lake State Park northwest of Grand Junction. The middle school and high school coed meet started in sunshine and ended in light rain, but the moisture didn’t dampen spirits and many favorable comments were heard.

Greene County was sixth among nine Class AA girls teams and ninth among nine boys’ squads in AA. Junior Olivia Hansen was the top Greene County finisher, placing eighth for the five kilometers in 22:09.17 with sophomore Emily Finch in twelfth in 22:31.08. The top 20 finishers in each race received medals. Rounding out the Rams top five on the girls’ side were freshman Melanie Doran, 52nd, in 25:36.79, senior Sunny Mobley, 72nd, in 28:13.05, and sophomore Regan Lamoureux, 75th, in 28:18.30.

Leading the Greene County boys was sophomore Kane Borgeson in 25th, followed by sophomore Nick Killion, 45th, sophomore Michael Eischeid, number 59, sophomore Ben Wilkens, 60th, and sophomore Nathan Kennedy, 61st. Boys’ times were not listed on the final results sheet.

Denison-Schleswig won the AA girls team title with 30 points, followed by Winterset 52, Algona High 92, Creston 106, Nevada 161, Greene County 170, Roland-Story (Story City) 176, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) 203, and Perry 234.
Winterset won the AA boys’ title with 35 points. Nevada had 76, Kuemper Catholic 87, R-S 91, Algona 135, Creston 143, D-S 154, Perry 240, and 250 for Greene County.

West Marshall (State Center) won the Class A team title with Panorama fourth among seventh teams. The A boys’ crown went to South Hamilton (Jewell) with 65 points. Panorama was second with 98 with Guthrie Center eighth with 189. There were 12 Class A boys’ teams.
