A fundraiser for the Capital Project Campaign for the Greene County Fair Association happened on Tuesday at the fairgrounds in Jefferson.

Secretary Doug Hawn says they ended up with $90,000 from their auction that featured seed corn and beans, chemicals and agronomic services.  All items were donated by seed companies and dealers, farmer cooperatives and industry providers.  The lowest bid item went for $500.  An appreciation meal was served with lamb kabobs and cutlets, and pork cutlets for attendees.  Last year, the auction raised over $110,000.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to build the second of three livestock barns on the fairgrounds.  Last year, Hawn notes, they finished replacing the swine building and now they are looking to replace the sheep building.  Work to remove the two older buildings is complete and the ground is ready to have a new cement pad poured.  The new Morton Building will be 72-feet-by-135-feet, identical to the swine building.

Donations and/or pledges can be made to the Greene County Fair Foundation at Home State Bank.Sheep Building demolition pic 2

Hawn expects to have the sheep building completed before the 2016 Greene County Fair and then they will move onto replacing the cattle barn as their final project the following year.
