corn intersectionAs summer winds down and we get closer to fall, that also means harvest season is right around the corner.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn reminds motorists of the importance of being alert and patient.

“Even through the City of Perry we’ll have those tractors moving through, especially up and down 1st Street and out on (Highway) 141.  You know, they’ll have slow moving signs on them, a lot of tractors today actually have lights and flashing lights, but just be aware of that.  Proceed with caution when you’re approaching them.  Make sure it’s safe before you do go around them because they’re going to be traveling considerably slower than you are, especially out on the highway or even on 1st Street where the speed limit is 35 to 45 miles per hour.”

Vaughn adds that drivers also need to make sure they look both ways, especially at uncontrolled rural intersections when the corn is high.
