The Dallas County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office is hosting another Strengthening Families program this fall.
Designed for parents and youth between the ages of 10 and 14 the seven-week workshop encourages supportive family involvement and age appropriate expectations. Participates will learn how to manage their emotions in a healthy and positive manner and resist peer pressure.
The sessions start October 5th and meet Mondays from 6:30-8:30pm. The first hour each week will split the parents and youth into separate groups. Adults will learn how to select appropriate consequences and encourage independence while the youth will talk about goal setting, risky behaviors and understanding their parent’s point of view. Everyone will then come together for the second half to participate in activities and build more stable relationships.
A meal will be served each week starting at 6pm at the Perry Elementary School and free child care is provided.
