Last season’s matchup against Ballard was one to forget for the ADM football team, as the Bombers steamrolled the Tigers, 42-14.
The non-district matchup shifts to Adel for the Tigers 2015 home opener Friday night, and both teams have a considerable amount of firepower to replace.
Ballard is breaking in a new starting quarterback and running back, after seniors Quentin Erickson and Isaiah Johnson victimized ADM’s defense to the tune of 298 yards rushing and five rushing touchdowns combined in Huxley last season.
The Bombers beat Boone 29-23 in week one with junior Max Stoltz at quarterback and sophomore Hunter Wright at quarterback.
Both performed well in the ground game against the Toreadors. Bombers head coach Al Christian said his offense may not be as dynamic as it was a year ago, but the ability to run the read-option effectively with his current roster is still there.
“Really, our feature back we thought would be is Hunter Wright, which I still think as our tailback he will be, it was just things that Boone gave us opened some things for our quarterback, Max Stoltz, and he took advantage of it and ran very well,” Christian said. “He’s not that Quinton Erickson we had last year, the explosive runner. He’s going to be the hard-nose, get us some play-action passes and then maybe get us five, six yards at at a time instead of that big, explosive play.
“But that’s OK, we’ll take that, and I think Hunter can turn in to kind of an Isaiah Johnson last year. Again, I don’t think we’ll be explosive as we were offensively, but if we can be consistent, get first downs and keep the other team off the field, that will be key for us.”
The Tigers and Bombers kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Our pregame coverage on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com begins at 7 p.m.
