Greene County Community CenterWith a new school year underway, a popular youth program also returns to the Greene County Community Center.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says ReCharge Wednesdays is for anyone in kindergarten through eighth grade.  There are a variety of games and other activities for kids to enjoy when school dismisses early on Wednesdays.  Lautner points out that this program also helps kids to be physically active.

“Instead of going home and watching tv or just lounging around, we developed this class so they can come over here (to the community center) and we do activities.  We go to the park and play, and run around and for a good 45 minutes to an hour, the kids will be very active.”

She adds that at the end of each program, the kids get a healthy snack.

“It’s just to teach them that they can eat a snack that is not candy.  Something that’s healthy for them, it’s got protein, they still get carbohydrates for energy and then we’ll give them either milk or juice.”

The first session of ReCharge Wednesdays runs from September 2nd through December 16th from 2:30 to 3:30pm.  It is free program courtesy of McFarland Clinic.  No registration is required for the weekly program.
