One of the key areas for improvement in the offseason for the Perry football team was increased participation in the weight room.  Head Coach Jason Olejniczak was pleased with a lot of his player’s performance and discipline in the weight room during the offseason and said he really saw some individual growth.

“It’s a funny thing because at this age, a lot of the increased strength gain and muscle gain depends on the body type.  High School kids have different body types which means they respond differently.  Marcus Meri was a guy who I felt made a lot of strides and was able to put on some weight and get stronger.  Then you have a guy like Tyler (Soll) who is flat out the strongest kid on our team and continues to have a lot of success in the weight room.”

The improved strength from last year might have paid dividends in their narrow one point loss against ADM.  The Bluejays appeared to be the better conditioned team in the second half outscoring the Tigers 13-0 over the final 13 minutes.  Perry will look to strike the win column for the first time Friday night when they travel to North Polk.
