The Jefferson Public Library recently received its accreditation from Iowa Library Services.
The library qualified through the requirements from “In Service to Iowa: Public Library Standards Fifth Edition.” Library staff were recognized for their efforts in library operations including governance and funding, staffing, library collections, services, public relations, access and facilities. Accredited libraries also include community involvement for individuals needing information on finding a job, lifelong learning and e-government activities, along with being an overall resource outlet.
There are 351 accredited libraries in Iowa out of the 544 public libraries. Each accredited library also receives a Certificate of Accreditation by Governor Terry Branstad, Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds, State Librarian Michael Scott and Iowa Commission of Libraries Chairperson Brandie Ledford.
