The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
The Board approved a beer permit for Beer Here Entertainment in Cooper for this weekend’s Pedaler’s Jamboree, along with abating $398 for three homeowners as part of the abatement assistance program.
About seven people were in the boardroom for the public hearing on the hog confinement expansion for Davis Hog and Grain in Franklin Township. Birt and Mae Davis scored a 440 out of 880 on the Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s (DNR) Master Matrix. The Supervisors read three letters of concern from neighbors that were opposed to the project. Some of the concerns were requesting to know when manure will be spread, another was about impeding on their way of life and the smell was hurting the value of their property. Birt Davis addressed each concern and he agreed to let his neighbors know when he was going to spread manure and he said he would use an additive to help cut down on the odor. The Supervisors approved to recommend approval of the project to the DNR.
Finally, it was announced that County Zoning and Sanitation Tim Healy will be retiring on September 9th. He’s been a county employee for 37 ½ years and since 1989, has been in his current position.
