Much like ADM, the Ballard Bombers football team suffered a number of losses at key skill positions because of graduated seniors. Both teams look different heading into Friday’s non-district showdown in Adel, and yet, many things haven’t changed from last season.

The Tigers of course continue to run the spread offense and showed they could move the ball under the direction of second-year starting quarterback Frank Weiland, despite a group of almost all new receivers, in the season-opening win at Perry on Friday.

Absent several starting lineman, starting quarterback Quinton Erickson and starting running back Isaiah Johnson of the 2014 team, Ballard dispatched Boone, 29-23, in week 1.

Erickson and Johnson torched ADM to the tune of 298 yards rushing a five rushing touchdowns in Ballard’s 42-14 win over the Tigers in Huxley last season, so none of ADM’s players were sorry to see them graduate.

That said, based on statistics, it appears Ballard is running the same run-heavy, read-option offense from last season: in the win over Boone last Friday, new starting quarterback Max Stoltz ran for 120 yards and a touchdown on just 24 carries.

The Tigers and Bombers square off at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Adel. Our pregame coverage on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com begins at 7 p.m.
