Former ADM star quarterback Gavin Glenn enjoyed an illustrious high school quarterbacking career, moving from a third team all-state selection as a sophomore in 2009 to the second team in 2010.
His days on the high school gridiron then ended in memorable fashion, as he helped lead ADM to a 12-1 record and appearance in the state semi-finals in 2011 while being named 1st Team All-State as a senior.
Glenn’s collegiate football career, on the other hand, hasn’t been a straight shot. He spent his first two seasons at Divison II University of Minnesota Duluth before arriving at his current destination, Coe College.
Glenn never saw the field in live action in Duluth, taking a redshirt his freshman season. The extra year of eligibility carried down to the Division III level with the Kohawks of Cedar Rapids, meaning he enters this season as a redshirt junior.
The former Tiger showed the Coe coaching staff what he could do in a relief role last season, completing 25-of-37 passes for 296 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in eight games.
He said he believes that experience will pay off as he competes for the starting role for the upcoming season.
“It was helpful just getting those little bits of playing time as the year went on, and then as my playing time increased, I got more and more playing, getting back to playing, because I had sat out for two full years of practice,” Glenn said. “It was still practice, but the difference between practice and games are pretty dramatic.”
The Kohawks finished 5-5 last season and open the 2015 season at home against Wheaton College on Sept. 5.
