back to schoolToday’s back to school safety week topic has to do with parents and those picking up students.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says bad weather leads to additional safety concerns for several reasons.

“We will like double the amount of vehicles picking up kids so that’s just a time where we need to be extra cautious.  Also, it’s usually a little darker and a little hazier outside so we need to be more cautious at that time.”

Vaughn also reminds everyone that even if you’re in your own car, if you’re parked on school property there are rules.

“If you’re waiting for your child in the parking lot or in a school area, just a reminder there is no smoking anywhere on any school property.  That includes any type of tobacco and also (electronic) cigarettes are not allowed on any part of school property.”

Chief Vaughn encourages everyone to be extra cautious these first couple weeks of the school year as people get back into their routines.
