rock hungerResidents in the Perry area may hear a knock on their door this week at the local Lions Club is collecting donations for the Perry Food Pantry as part of the Rock Hunger in Dallas County challenge between Perry and the Adel De Soto Minburn school district.

Dave Wright with the Perry Lions Club says often times people think you can only donate traditional items like canned goods and dry pasta but really the pantries need other items as well.

“Like diapers, soap, laundry soap, Kleenex, toilet paper and toothpaste, those things sound like things not normally given at a food drive but there’s the need for those kind of things at the food pantry too.  Also, the food pantry will accept items if they have an expiration date.  If the item has expired and it’s less than a year from the date, they’ll accept those items and they tend to use those things.”

The donations from each district will be weighed this weekend and the winner of Friday’s varsity football game between Perry and ADM will receive the traveling Rock Hunger river rock trophy.

Those who would like to drop off a donation of items can do so at Medicap Pharmacy in Perry.
