The Panorama girls cross country team has two of the 30 best runners in Class 1A. According to the Iowa Track Coaches Association, sophomore Devyn Kemble is ranked #21 and sophomore Brianna Hoffman is ranked 29th. As a team, the Panthers are ranked 4th best in the class. Though only sophomores, both runners already have impressive resumes. Kemble qualified for the Class 1A state cross country meet last year, where she finished 30th, and competed in five events at this past spring’s class 2A state track meet. Hoffman narrowly missed the state cross country meet in her freshman campaign but qualified to run in the 3000 meter run at the state track meet. Panorama’s head cross country coach Greg Thompson says he has a deeply talented team with vast amounts of competition in the middle of the pack. “We have a total of 16 girls, so when it gets down to that 6-7-8-9 slot, it could change from meet to meet. They’re all of equal ability, there were about five of them that came in at about the same time at the time trial, so it’s going to be whoever steps it up on that particular day.”
Both the boy and girl Panther cross country teams compete in their first meet of the season at Guthrie Center, Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
