Increased law enforcement will be out the next couple of weeks as part of the special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) through the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2013, 424 fatal crashes were recorded nationwide during the three-day Labor Day holiday.  Of the 424 crashes, 27 percent of the drivers had a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.15, or nearly twice the legal limit of .08.

The Greene County Sheriff’s office and the Jefferson Police Department will once again participate in sTEP.  They urge everyone to not drink and drive, always wear seatbelts and do not speed.

The sTEP Wave is going on now through September 7th.
