The Perry swim team will be the first fall squad in action as Jean Dowd guides the Jayettes to Des Moines Hoover tonight for a triangular with Hoover and Des Moines North. The meet was originally scheduled for September 15th but was moved to tonight.
Junior Haley Vaughn will once again look to be a leader for the Jayettes in the pool. A returning letterwinner, Vaughn was solid last year in both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke.
“I put a lot of swimming hours in during the off season,” smiles Vaughn. “I swam the whole winter season from November through April and then was part of the Perry summer swim team in June and July. I also started training in the pool and working some dry land techniques a couple of weeks before our first swimming practice. I’m ready to go.”
Vaughn will share captain duties this season with senior Haileigh Kenyon. She is anxious to be a leader for 7 ambitious swimmers.
“I think I’m a pretty positive person. I have a lot of years of experience in swimming and I think I can help them with some of their strokes. I love our team. We’re not very big but we are definitely close both in and out of the pool. We have a lot of fun together and that’s important.”
Tonight’s swim meet will begin at 5:30 at Des Moines Hoover.
