Chris Ocak is one of several recent additions to the ADM football coaching staff, having replaced retired assistant Terry Rolles.

Ocak is also replacing Rolles in the social studies department, but interestingly enough, this will be his first experience coaching football.

Ocak said he played varsity football in high school, but focused on rugby after that. He said he plans to use his experience in rugby help teach players proper tackling technique, something that’s stressed in rugby, a sport without pads, and a segment of football that seems to be deteriorating at the professional level on down.

“There’s one thing that rugby has in common has in common with football, and that tackling,” Ocak said. “I think when you play rugby, you learn a lot more about tackling than in modern American football.”

ADM opens the season August 28 at Perry.
