The Freedom Rock project based out of Greenfield is getting promoted across the state thanks to a Freedom Rock calendar sold exclusively at Casey’s General Stores. Freedom Rock artist Bubba Sorensen says profits from calendar sales will benefit his goal of trying to get a Freedom Rock in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. 31 counties currently have a completed Freedom Rock and 53 others have reservations with Sorensen and are waiting for their rock to be painted.

The Coon Rapids-Bayard School District says they’ll be strictly enforcing lunch rules this school year. Data Manager Rena Shaw says any student with a negative balance up to fifteen dollars will not be able to purchase a second lunch or a la carte items. Students with negative balances greater than fifteen dollars will be served the alternate lunch consisting of a cheese sandwich, fruit or vegetables and milk. Lunch this year will cost $1.95 for students kindergarten-second grade and $2.20 for students in 3rd-12th grade. If you have any questions, call Shaw at 712-999-2208.

Three incumbent candidates are running unchallenged in next month’s Guthrie Center School Board election. Tim Benson, Keith Buttler and Wanda Knobbe will be voted on at large by the school district’s constituents. If elected, each will serve a four year term through 2019. Election Day is September 8th.

A Menlo man will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. According to his nomination, Raph Lents is being honored for over a decade of service to various Adair County Extension and 4-H groups and his service as Adair County Fair Beef Superintendent. The ceremony will take place at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday, August 23rd at 1:30 p.m. in the 4-H Exhibits Building.

There are three candidates running for the Panorama School Board’s three available seats in next month’s election. District 1 Director Jenny Van Gundy and District 5 Director Bryice Wilke are both running unchallenged. Deborah Westergaard is the only candidate for the District 3 seat, which is currently held by Tom Arganbright, who after serving nine years on the board, declined to run for reelection. Election Day is September 8th.
