Hot August Night in Jefferson is today.
Greene County Chamber Tourism and Events Coordinator Angie Pedersen says streets will be closed on Wilson and Chestnut streets from Washington to Harrison and on State Street and Lincoln Way from Vine to Locust streets by noon today.
Organizer Chuck Wenthold says over 350 cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors participated last year. Vehicles range from the early 1900’s to 2015 models. Awards will be given to the best car, truck, motorcycle and tractor exhibitors, along with a Spirit Award and a $200 cash prize to the car club that has the most entries. Wenthold talks about what last year’s RPM Club did with their money.
“Last year the RPM Club donated their $200 back to the local Kiwanis (Club) for everything that they do in the community. It’s their choice of what they do with the money, if they do something in their own community or like last year they donated it back.”
Ballots for all the awards must be submitted by 7pm with the announcement of the winners at 7:45pm.
Hot August Night will be from 5 to 8pm with food vendors and shopping opportunities. Wenthold adds that drive up registrations will be accepted today. Plus, KGRA will be broadcasting live with our Big Red Radio. Below is a map showing what streets will be blocked off today:
