Registrations are due today for the eight and under through 12 and under soccer leagues with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department.

Director Vicky Lautner says these are competitive leagues playing teams from outside of Greene County.  Games for the U8 league will be played in Jefferson and Ogden and for U10 and U12, games will be played in Fort Dodge.  Lautner believes soccer is a growing sport in Greene County and she describes why.

“I think the competition with Ogden has helped that, (because) kids like to compete against other kids from other towns and they don’t like to play each other all the time.  Same way with the U10 and U12 going to Fort Dodge, I think that’s helped us out also.”

The leagues will be from August 24th through October 17th.  There is a $35 participation fee with additional costs for jersey and socks.  Shin guards are required and volunteer coaches are needed.
