A Hamilton County man is accused of leading several law enforcement agencies on a high speed chase through three counties and causing two patrol vehicles to collide during that chase. Guthrie County Deputy Michael Herbert says on Tuesday, August 11th at about 8:44 p.m. a deputy attempted to pull over a white Pontiac on Highway 25 for failure to display a license plate light. The vehicle accelerated northbound in an attempt to elude the deputy, who lost track of it on E Avenue in southern Greene County. A Greene County deputy chased the vehicle until losing track of it at Highway 141.
The chase ended on Highway 141 west of Coon Rapids, where the Pontiac was involved in an accident while reportedly causing a Coon Rapids Police Department vehicle and a Carroll County Sheriff’s Department vehicle to collide. The driver, Justin Gerlach, of the Webster City area, was arrested and charged with eluding, possession of marijuana-3rd offense, carrying weapons, driving while barred and interference with official acts. He is also wanted on several unrelated charges in Hamilton County. Gerlach has been booked into the Carroll County Jail.
