The new Pattee Park Soccer Complex took a huge, financial leap forward Tuesday morning as Tyson Fresh Meats in Perry presented the city of Perry with a $100,000 dollar check to be used for the construction of a new soccer complex at Pattee Park.  Tyson Plant Manager Mike Grothe presented Perry Mayor Jay Pattee with the check as City Administrator Sven Peterson, McCreary Community Coordinator John Anderson and Perry Industry’s Bill Clark observed.  Tyson was represented by Chaplan Steve Murdock and Alberto Olguin.

“Soccer is such a universal sport,” Grothe stated.  “It’s really interesting to see all of the nationalities come together.  It’s great for our community and we support it.  We feel our team members will get a great benefit out of it and Tyson is excited to be part of it and watch it develop.”

Mayor Pattee was appreciative of Tyson’s support and laid out what this money will be used for.

“In Perry’s history, some of the best things that have ever happened are when the private sector works with the public sector to get things done and Tyson Fresh Meats is a great corporate citizen.  The money donated today is a huge step in getting phase 1 wrapped up.”

Perry will soon begin construction of a retention pond, 1 adult soccer field and parking lot access in open lot across from the baseball fields and Dog Park at Pattee.  The mayor says this type of donation will pay dividends when it comes to securing future funds.

“As a city, whenever we are looking for money or to get financing, the grants (writers) want to see that you have a good start to it and are fully committed to the idea.  What Tyson did today certainly proves that we are.”

The sport of soccer has become really popular in the city of Perry.  The community is celebrating back to back state trips for the high school program while both adult and youth participation in recreation leagues continue to provide the highest numbers among the major sports.

“This is very important to all of us.  We just had a local Tyson soccer tournament and had a tough time finding a space big enough to get all of our team members the space we needed.  Our team members are excited about today’s news and our plant realizes the importance of activities for our team members to enjoy to keep the positive growth going.”

The city is hoping to begin moving dirt this fall when construction on phase 1 complete sometime in the spring of 2016.  Phases 2 and 3 will call for the construction of an additional 3 soccer fields along with a walking trail and full size parking lot.
