The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
The Board heard an update on the City of Jefferson from City Administrator Mike Palmer. He reported that a design consultant with Main Street Iowa met with the City and Jefferson Matters: Main Street on their joint building project at 205 North Wilson. The consultant will send back various design plans for the building. Palmer expects JCorporation, Incorporated to begin construction of their 44-unit housing development at the Water Tower Subdivision by the end of August. After a brief discussion with County Engineer Wade Weiss, Palmer told the Board the City would pay $3,000 to repair some of the speakers on the downtown square after a few were hit by lightning.
The Board then approved several items. A consent agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for Drainage District 114 was approved, along with the County Recorder’s report of fees of $14,545.73 from July, setting August 17th at 9:30am for a public hearing on a new industrial tax exemption ordinance and a liquor license for Dolly’s Bar and Grill to serve alcohol at a special event at St. Patrick’s Church in Churdan on Saturday. The Board also approved transferring $40,000 from General Basic funds to Conservation Reserves to pave a road at Spring Lake Park and make electrical upgrades to Hyde and Squirrel Hollow parks.
Due to Sheryl McDonald not attending the meeting, the Board didn’t have a discussion about a drainage issue on the Raccoon River Valley Trail near her property.
A summer intern with the Greene County District Judges spoke to the Board about the final language for a new engine brake ordinance for the County. The Board decided to keep the final recommendations and set a first reading of the ordinance for next week’s meeting.
