The ADM Tiger football program has been running the spread offense for more than a decade under head coach Mike Whisner, and it’s an offense that demands from the quarterback confidence in making reads and accurate passing.

The Tigers have thus been challenged each of the last three seasons having had to break in a first-year starter at the varsity level. That trend will be bucked in the opener on August 28 when ADM opens the season with senior Frank Weiland starting under center for the second consecutive season.

“That’s been probably one of the biggest challenges is a few years in a row, we’ve had first time starters at quarterback, and it’s nice to get a year under your belt to get a feel for it,” Whisner said. “And we’re looking at him to lead us in that role, and from what I’ve seen, he’s in that position to do that.

“Like I said, it’s always more interesting when you run plays against other people – then you can really guage if you’ve improved or not.”

Weiland finished the 2014 season third in Class 3A with 2,515 yards passing, along with 19 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
