Those who would like to pre-burn some calories before taking advantage of the free sweet corn this weekend are encouraged to participate in this year’s Adel Sweet Corn 5K Run.
The race leads runners along the brick streets of Adel, along the parade route in front of hundreds of spectators.
It starts at the intersection of 11th and Court Streets at 8am Saturday. Parking will be available in town or at the Adel DeSoto Minburn High School where transportation will be provided to the starting line between 7 and 7:45am.
If you still need to register, you can do so during packet pickup Friday at the old middle school from 4-8pm or Saturday at the race site after 7:30.
Awards will be handed out for the first through third place finishers in both a men’s and a women’s division for various age groups. The racer with the best corn related costume will also win a prize.
All proceeds from the race will go to benefit the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter’s veteran projects.
