Six Perry homes were evacuated for a few hours Tuesday afternoon as a precaution after a construction company hit a gas line.
The incident happened shortly after 3pm near the intersection of 7th and Rawson Streets. Perry Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Brian Eiteman says it happened when a boring crew that was putting in underground electrical lines cut through a four-inch gas main.
In addition to the police and fire departments, MidAmerican Energy was called to the scene and Eiteman says the line was repaired by 7pm.
