ADM’s heartbreaking ending to an otherwise magnificent season with Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to Creston in the Class 4A regional finals marked the final game for the Tigers’ two seniors, Taylor Boorn and Kenzi Sutton.

The duo has contributed a lot to not only the softball program, but other sports as well. Boorn, the third basemen the past two seasons for head coach Rick Dillinger’s team, is also an accomplished golfer. She registered the 14th best combined nine-hole/18-hole average in Class 4A (47.82) this past season for the state tournament-participating ADM girls varsity golf team.

Sutton, committed to play softball at DMACC in Boone, was also a key contributor to the varsity basketball and volleyball teams. She was named most improved player on both teams, starting at center for the basketball Tigers.

“Well, they’ve lead well, and  they’ve lead because of their work ethic,” Dillinger said. “Taylor really cares about her teammates, just like Kenzi does and they help teach, and help encourage, and so forth.  But they’ve also lead by example, stepping up in key games and getting key hits and making great plays. We’re very happy with their  performance.

“When we’re all done with everything at the end of the season, we’re going to miss them tremendously. They’re great kids and they’ve lead well and they’ve been a good example for all the underclassmen.”

Sutton was named second team All-State by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union in each of the previous two seasons. Given her numbers this year, she’s likely to earn first-team distinction: Sutton lead the team in batting average  (.449), on-base percentage (.575), slugging (.867), home runs (10), RBI (33), runs (37) and walks (19).

Boorn took a significant leap forward both in the field and at the plate from last season, when she hit just .198 and posted a .782 fielding percentage. In 2015, Boorn hit .242 with five homers (all coming with runners on) and 21 RBI, along with a .933 fielding percentage.
