ADM junior Molly Jacobsen fired a no-hitter and scored the winning run on Montana Popp’s walk-off single in the ninth as the Tigers captured a game that felt like a state final Tuesday night in Adel, 1-0, over No. 2 Indianola.
Jacobsen was simply sensation for the No. 1 Tigers, her only blemish a one-out walk to Emily Sones in the second. The state leader in strikeouts picked up 13 more against the Indians (33-7), retiring the final 23 she saw to pick up her second no-hitter of the year after blanking Roland-Story on June 13.
Jacobsen outdueled Indianola freshman Sydney Sickles, who was nearly as good. ADM managed just four hits off Sickles, who struck out seven, allowed four hits, walked one and hit two batters.
The winning rally started on Jacobsen’s leadoff double in the ninth. After Kenzi Sutton was walked, Popp blooped a soft single to left and Jacobsen came motoring home as left fielder Payton Anderson bobbled the ball and her throw home was off-line.
ADM (31-4) didn’t pick up its first hit until Jacobsen’s one-out double in the sixth. The Tigers stranded five base runners in innings two-through-four.
The Tigers will take the next two days off and enjoy a first round bye as the Class 4A regional playoffs start Thursday. ADM will then host the winner of Lewis Central and Carroll in the second round at 7 p.m. Saturday in Adel; you can catch the game live on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
