The Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.
The Council heard a report on Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) from Executive Director Ken Paxton. He said GCDC closed the sale on a one-acre lot of their West Business Park on Iowa Highway 4, south of Syngenta. A dental business purchased the land. GCDC is also in negotiations with two manufacturing companies looking to locate in Paton. The annual GCDC dinner is scheduled for September 16th at Wild Rose Jefferson and at the end of October will be another town hall meeting to information residents about the development projects going on in the County.
The Council then approved a resolution to amend the Urban Renewal Plan to allow for financial incentives for JCorporation, Incorporated to build a 44-unit housing development at the Water Tower Subdivision. The Council also approved a resolution for a development agreement with JCorp to not exceed seven years and $750,000 in tax increment financing. A third reading to adopt a Planned Unit Development for JCorp to build its housing development was approved, along with the preliminary and flat plat for the property.
The Council approved to replace a four-inch water line on Walnut Street between Central Avenue and West Mahlon for $73,950, with construction to begin this fall.
Ogden native Blayne Sunstrum was approved as the new police officer and Kent Curtis was approved as the City’s new general service worker. City Administrator Mike Palmer says Curtis will help with each of the City’s departments for water, sewer, streets, parks and cemeteries. The starting pay for Sunstrum is $38,552 and for Curtis, it is $32,946.
The Council then approved the second reading to increase water and sewer rates each by three percent.
City Engineer John Milligan reported that Scharnweber Water Conditioning hired Hatch Construction to help them install a new lift station and install new sewer lines for Wild Rose Jefferson.
