Greene County Historical MuseumWhen looking for things to do in Greene County, the Historical Society urges everyone to visit the Historical Museum in Jefferson.

President Ces Brunow says the museum on Lincoln Way was established by the historical society 14 years ago and is still maintained by them.  She points out that most of their permanent items that are on display were either used or created in Greene County from the early 1900’s.  However, there are some displays that change to keep the museum new and fresh for visitors.

Another aspect of the museum, adds Brunow, is allowing people to touch certain items that are designated with a green circle that says “Please Touch.”

“Traditionally, museums don’t want you to touch anything, and usually the sign that you see is, ‘Don’t Touch.’  However, we all have this knowledge that all of us learn better when we can touch something.  We remember it better.  It’s a different kind of richer experience, if we can actually manipulate something.”

Hours of operation are Wednesdays from 1 to 4pm and Saturdays from 9am to noon.  There’s no admission charge, but free will donations are accepted.
