With the high school softball season now completely in the rear view mirror, players all across the state will turn their focus toward preparing for next season. That includes the coaches, who will of course enjoy a break from the action for the time being.
An entire offseason is still to unfold for the ADM softball Tigers, who enjoyed a strong season that culminated with a second straight trip to the regional finals and a 32-5 record. ADM figures to field a strong team next season as it will be losing just two seniors, though a pair key players at that.
Gone from the 2016 Tigers will be ADM’s left side of the infield in shortstop Kenzi Sutton and third basemen Taylor Boorn.
Tigers head coach Rick Dillinger said he knows it will be difficult to replace the production of those two, but he has confidence ADM’s program is deep enough to do so.
“Well, we’ve got I think maybe one or two outfielders that we can move in,” he said. “We have a couple young kids that possibly could move into the spots, it’s just going to depend on how much work they’re willing to do and who wants the spots [the most].
“To be honest, I think we’ll be strong. We’ll miss their hitting early in the season, the two seniors graduating, but I think also we’ve got kids that will improve tremendously and become just as good of hitters over the long haul. It really depends on how hard they want to work in the offseason, how hard they want to work at the beginning of the season to become great players.”
