Greene County meets Benton Community (Van Horne) in a Class 3A State Softball Tournament semifinal game today at 1 p.m. north of Ft. Dodge at Rogers Sports Complex. Benton is 41-3 and ranked second after spending much of the season at number one. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams are 31-6 and ranked fourth. The two programs have not met and the winner goes to Friday’s 12:15 p.m. title game against either top ranked Solon or number eight Center Point-Urbana. The two semifinal losers meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday for third place.
Coach Kennedy said of Benton, “They play in a tough conference with good competition, so we’ll have our hands full. Amber Fiser is a good pitcher. We saw her in Benton’s quarterfinal win Tuesday night after our game. She throws hard and has a lot of strikeouts. We’ll need to put the ball in play against her. Benton’s top hitter is Alyssa Wiebel, who is hitting almost .600 with 19 homers and 64 runs batted in, so they give you plenty to prepare for. We give it our best shot.”
The first pitch on KG98 and raccoonvalleyradio.com is scheduled for 1 p.m. with air time at 12:30 p.m.
