Greene County Community School District continues to make progress on their summer projects.
One of the major projects is installing new football bleachers at Linduska Field. Superintendent Tim Christensen says the home side bleachers have been demolished and additional concrete has been poured to provide a seven foot corridor underneath the new bleachers. The north end bleachers from the home side have also been moved to the visitor side of the field. The new 15 aluminum bleachers are due to arrive later this summer.
Additionally, the School Board approved the addition of concrete sidewalks at the football field. Christensen explains what the why this is needed.
“Just make the area more accessible to handicapped (people), but basically anybody to be able to walk around on (an) even concrete surface. Sometimes it’s a challenge walking on grass that’s uneven for anybody. Whether you come in the north gate or the west gate, (you) could be on concrete the entire time.”
Other projects this summer include installing additional wireless internet access to all school buildings; purchasing a new school bus, two suburbans and a utility vehicle; repairing the baseball field; doing fire safety work; making Americans with Disabilities Act improvements; replacing carpet in three elementary classrooms, repairing the roof and steel siding on the Wisecup Memorial Gym in Rippey and updating some of the Google Chromebooks.
The projects are being funded by the voter-approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy account.
